Tom Baxter earned his B.S. degree in business administration from Auburn University in 1970. He received a J.D., cum laude, at Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in 1973 and was admitted to the Alabama State Bar that same year. Mr. Baxter is also admitted to practice in all of the U.S. District Courts of Alabama and the Eastern District of Tennessee as well as before the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the 11th and 5th Circuits.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Baxter has practiced law in Huntsville since 1973 where he works primarily in the areas of business, corporate and commercial matters, including litigation, real estate law, estates and trusts, bankruptcy and creditors rights. He has served on the Alabama Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Rules of Criminal Procedure and on the Advisory Committee on Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure for the Northern District of Alabama. Mr. Baxter is a member of the Alabama State Bar (Charter member, Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section), the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association, the American Bar Association (Charter member, Litigation Section and Member, Law Practice Management Section) and the Association of Trial Lawyers in America.

Tom has served as President of and is an active member of the Rotary Club of Greater Huntsville. As a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, he has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee and as a member of the Church Council. Mr. Baxter is currently on the teaching team in the Aldersgate Sunday School Class.
